South Korea's high-end boutique bakery, Whitelier, opened its fourth flagship store in Misa District of Gyeonggido, South Korea. The design team of Studio Eccentric Co., Ltd., aimed to display this bakery to the next level. Compound word of 'White' and 'Atelier', Whitelier has been well known for its specialty in making white bread. As this shop only focuses on making premium classic white loaf of bread and artisan jams, it has been important to express the artisanship of this bakery on the exterior as well as to the interior of the space.
The design team wanted to express this bakery as a main theme of 'white workshop' of white bread and further developed on it. Within the given area of 54 square meters, it has been critical to use the limited space wisely and efficiently as the hall and the baking kitchen were in need for proper space both to produce and display for incoming customers.
The white facade along the whole width of the property has represented the workshop in white atmosphere, catching people's curiosity. Also, the curvature of the facade has resembled the formation and the soft expression of a loaf of bread. In addition, beige colored low tile counter has continuously wrapped alongside of the hall to the end of the kitchen, which supported and balanced the whole visual proportion of the facade from outside.
Further inside, three-metered wall has separated the hall and the baking kitchen of the bakery. As the exposed ceiling of the space was much higher than the wall, the wall was no intended to give any impression of feeling constrained within the space. Instead the wall has turned out to be the main focal point of the hall space, articulated wood structure display shelves were elevated on the wall, which has emphasized and celebrated the form and the beauty of the white loaf.
