INNOVATION: Reimagining Work Spaces; We envisioned a studio with an atmospheric, soulful environment. This led us to create a series of interconnected and layered spaces, fostering a sense of intrigue and wonder among guests as they move through each room. The heart of the studio is the atelier space.White Jacket's founder Patricia Ho Douven has an undeniable vision that our workspace is not only a design studio for us, but a lively and vigorous hub for all like minded artists and creatives to congregate and assemble–a dynamic space which serves to inspire and cultivate creative collaborations. CREATIVITY: Located in a former warehouse with an 80’s vibe, the office takes a number of references from Patricia’s childhood memories. These inspired various design elements such as the terrazzo flooring that greets guests upon arrival.Keeping to that sense of nostalgia and familiarity,we preserved the existing metal gate that frames the lift door-a common fixture in old buildings.Paying homage to Singapore community, we turned one of the ubiquitous fixtures of the void deck(a shared space at the ground floor of housing blocks)-a round table with stools, into the feature of our Retail Gallery space. The FF&E were all conceptualised in-house,making our collection bespoke and one of a kind. The feature Meeting Room table comprises of two round modules arranged in a figure of 8 to bring people closer together for a convivial meeting environment, while the pendant lamp is based off Patricia’s childhood activity-making suspended mobiles by hand. Our main work area is open and airy, with a mural the encapsulates Clarke Quay's riverside steps and bumboats in an abstract manner.Corridor and window arches reflect the elegant curvature of the Elgin Bridge. A deep, cobalt green fluted counter draws one into the Show Kitchen,as a sculptural stiletto-inspired table adorns the space. Marked by the contrasting dark terrazzo flooring, the unisex restroom includes an island vanity counter that serves as both a wet and dry counter. FUNCTIONALITY: While the main purpose of the studio is to cater to the expansion of the company,we did not want to limit the potential of the space and restrict it to the confines of what an interior design studio should look like. We catered for a space that would bring creatives to gather, to exhibit, to collaborate, and ideate. As such, one of the key highlights of the studio is the creation of the atelier-gallery space where we will host art exhibitions, artist in residency programmes etc. SUSTAINABILITY: Our terrazzo flooring at the entrance and washroom incorporates leftover stone samples from our material library,as well as leftover stone slabs from stone supplier. All the materials used(fabric, veneer, timber flooring, stone, glass etc.) were carefully planned to maximize usage and minimize wastage.Lighting design has been carefully planned to reduce unnecessary fittings. Smart lighting control were specified to ensure energy and power efficiency.
