WeWork’s philosophy behind the building layout is as important sectionally as it is in plan; the intention is to provide a seamless relationship between all 16 floors by strategically placing a series of amenities to encourage members of varying sectors and scales to interact. The lobby was designed to present an immersive experience, usually limited to Members, to the public. As an activated extension of the public realm of the Southbank Place, guests and members are invited to explore a space that challenges the typical office tower lobby, greeted by a DJ, a barista, lounges, meeting pavilions, arcade games and a full-scale halfpipe. The building contains a Wellness suite (with adjacent shower provision), new mothers’ room, and a meditation room. This amenity is a collaboration with corporate wellness organisation Reset LDN, which provides up to 40 classes per week including yoga, fitness and massage treatments. A central atrium is illuminated by a dynamic Barrisol light that mimics daylight throughout the day, changing in intensity and colour temperature. This promotes productivity in peak hours and aids human circadian cycles promoting wellness within the working environment. Integrated wireless lighting and HVAC control reduces wasted energy consumption, wiring, installation and commissioning time, but retains adequate user control, whilst the bespoke WeWork "member app" is utilised to enable booking of resources, meeting rooms, provide feedback on environmental conditions and connect with other Members. The building is also rated as BREEAM Excellent.
