West Hotel was intentionally curated to be an internally focused sanctuary, to enhance this distinctive aspect – our focus was to establish a lush atrium that works as an escape from the bustling city. Wedged between an office building and a heritage pub, the faceted glass box is an escape from the city. The restaurant, bar, rooms all surround a sunlit, jungle-like atrium within. Woods Bagot have used the crystal-like façade of the base building by Fitzpatrick and Partners as the reference point for the interior design.

Warm timber and luxurious marble flooring that follows the geometry of the base building draws people from the outside in to a space that is made up of dark hues, velvety textures and Australian botanical references, embodying a side of Sydney that speaks to something other than the harbour.

From the small scale of the bedheads to the grand emerald green Italian terrazzo bar, sharp angles drawn from the facade and art deco inspired patterns - a nod to Sydney’s architectural heritage have been carried throughout the hotel. The bar, monolithic in form and situated in middle of the restaurant was hand crafted onsite. Its strong angled geometry parallels the distinctive geometric marble floor.
