The design of W Hotel Osaka swings between two main contrasting aesthetics: the simplicity of Japanese minimalism and the extravagance of the urban world saturated with colours. Specifically, for the health & wellness area, concrete focused on translating Osaka’s natural landscapes into a modern oasis. The main inspiration was drawn from onsen: Japanese hot spring spas, where one - in the middle of nature - can peacefully gaze towards the endless horizons, as well as sento: indoor bathhouses, which - because of the urban environment - bring nature indoors by using wall decorations. Striving to once again combine the interesting contrasts of the country, the hotel's wellness area showcases the simplicity of nature - the beauty of the continuous horizon - as well as neon colours reminiscent of Osaka's urban landscape. The health and wellness area consists of the W Away spa, the Fit gym with member’s lounge, and the WET deck including a swimming pool, an open courtyard and a bar. To reflect the concept of nature, the health and wellness area is characterised by smooth walls and rounded corners. The different functions are connected through a chrome horizon, the simplest abstraction of nature, flowing along the walls. Every area is color coded in shades of green, grey, blue or pink tiling, defining the space’s functions. When exiting the lifts, guests are welcomed at the beauty bar, which is defined by the same smooth lines. A wavy sheer curtain defines the beauty pod where you can get a quick massage. The spa area is tiled in shades of green in combination with half-round oak slats that accentuates the curves of the space. Curved oak walls and a cove ceiling with soft lighting define the treatment rooms. The gym is recognisable by its tiles in shades of grey, with an LED artwork literally running along the tiling – a nod to Osaka’s famous landmark: the neon Glico Running Man. The adjacent member's lounge is tiled in shades of pink. Here, members can relax, play a game and get a refreshing drink. The WET area comprehends different spaces, all defined by cobalt shades of blue. Open to the elements, with views of sky, W Osaka’s courtyard is an oasis, with live planting trailing down the walls of the atrium – enhancing the element of bringing nature indoors. Directly adjacent to the courtyard, guests can grab a cocktail at the WET bar, admiring the same natural curves featured in the Away beauty bar. From its elevated position on the horizon line, the WET swimming pool forms a backdrop to the courtyard. A stepped coved ceiling above the swimming pool consists of RGB LED lighting reflecting the seasons in vibrant Osaka neon.
