Designed as an opulent retail destination for those seeking exclusive and high-end products from the design industry, Vita Moderna recreates Milan's Brera District's versatility and panache amidst Mumbai's landscape. The design breathes new life into its industrial shell, tailoring to European tastes and accommodating luxury brands.
The custom-made lighting system is an ode to using design as a tool to enhance user experience while facilitating collaboration. The lighting design aims to create an environment where illumination serves a dual purpose, product visibility and fostering a welcoming ambiance. A special lighting system designed by Delta Light called the Superloop- a 5-meter-wide lighting ring is one of the biggest circular track lighting has been incorporated. The 14 superloop lighting rings are installed at various heights, with magnetic wireless rings and unique suspensions, allowing effortless adjustments according to the placement of furniture and products. Through careful preservation and enhancement of these existing features, the design transforms the desolate industrial shell by embracing the dynamic beauty of raw materials.
Thus, the building’s original character is not replaced but rather enhanced using additive measures. The existing load-bearing structure is a tapestry of exposed brick walls, columns, and windows, where every element has a story. Deteriorated elements have been transformed into captivating focal points through restoration techniques and interventions. To further embrace the duality of the styles and foster a sense of spaciousness, the openings or windows have been experimented on. European arches have been added to the windows to create an illusion of verticality that resonate with the architecture of Milan.
The industrial elements complement the space by offering a sense of rawness and authenticity. A faceted black metal geometry box has been inserted into this industrial area, housing conference rooms, lounge areas, and essential services. The introduction of this bold geometric contemporary insertion redefines spatial dynamics and captivates the eye.
Finished in wood tones, the lounge space offers a retreat within the expansive industrial setting. With the narratives of materials and voices of the brands, this heritage structure tells a story. From overlaying a wall with luxurious wall covering by Vittoria Figerio to creating bespoke setups for Flexform showcasing its modern high-end furniture, the interiors set the stage for sophistication. Elie Saab depicts its haute couture brand, adding opulence to the space.
With sustainability being the underlying essence, choices like water-based products ensured minimal environmental impact, and tactful insulation within the black-painted ceiling boosts efficiency. This project exemplifies a commitment to thoughtful planning and design. As a result, a space juxtaposing history with modern functionality is created, ensuring a remarkable experience.
