With just 18 rooms, Villa Terminus is housed in a heritage listed U-shaped wooden house built in the 1760s. Originally the two main wings contained 16 rooms and a storage attic. The hotel work as a kind of luxury annex to the larger Hotel Grand Terminus, located next to Villa Terminus. There is little exterior evidence of contemporary intervention. The modest grandeur of the house survives intact. The main transformation took place inside; as well as working with the existing fabric, the skill lay in how to marry the beauty and integrity of this old structure with the functional expectations of a 21st century hotel. The different hues of grey of the interior are taken from samples of wall scrapings of historic layers of original paint inside the house. As you go through the hotel, passing an array of restful living areas, a sedate library and a modern country kitchen, you will encounter a host of vintage mid-century pieces, all handpicked by the architects. The hotel also features furniture and objects by some of the most celebrated names in international design today. The 1760s, 1950s and 2010s seamlessly tell a Scandinavian design story.
