A sole floating boat, loaded with all the emotions. No matter how hard you’ve tried, the ocean always pushes back in the same manner. That’s how we fell in love with sailing. Every month we set ourselves out on a voyage.
Taipei is where we always stop by when shuttling between Yilan and Hsinchu.
It turned out to be a need for settlement—a villa, for both resting well and hosting guests.
Located in a busy marketplace in Taipei, the site obtained the most common layout in Taiwan: an 89 sqm place with four bedrooms, one living room, and one dining room, with long but narrow aisles and rooms, huge beam crossing above, and a messy street view with tarnished sheet metal houses all over when looking out the window. When it comes to redesign, every inch of space must be fully utilized at minimum body size, just like sailing on a yacht, where resource is a luxury term.
Led by the owner’s feeling, the layout remains the same with only one bedroom removed. The theme “Cabin” runs through the place, carrying bravery to move forward in this emerald-green covered space surrounded by warm, rich-textured wooden parts. The interior color shifts along with the daylight, and the streamlined silhouette with Titanium-plated details resemble the connection between present and the past, inner and outer world, a collection of memories and the refurbished villa, where no more layout issue exists.
This is the place where we could stay a while, before our next voyage to the unknown world.
