This Moscow based project was completed on a very tight budget and in exceptionally short time of one and a half month. The original space had ceilings of over 4 meter high whereas functionality of a beauty studio needs only 2,5 meters. To resolve this contradiction Karlova invented a dessue-de-mirroir (above mirror elements) designed to keep the walls decorative. Various shelves on which beauty merchandise are displayed play an important role helping the studio increase sales. To accommodate all types of shampoos and beauty goods Mia Karlova designed sophisticated metal vitrines. They allow all products to be well visible while smoothly integrating them into the overall interior concept. ”The cultural roots of the graphics lay in the sculptural heritage of Sidney Gordin works” – says Karlova – “ but it is only an inspiration.” Initial clients’ request was to create a monochrome discrete space which would appeal to clients of both genders. Delicate powdery colors along with intriguing hat lampshades are rather feminine while oak wall panels with brutal mirrors are addressed to men. All together it makes a convincing blend united by graphic elements.
