The former restaurant »Vallazza« was demolished and rebuilt as the new Staff Residence »Vallazza«, residential house for the employees of FORESTIS.
"The employees are the spearhead of the company"
The basic idea for the design of the building was the spearhead, from which the gable roof and the pointed shape of the building were modeled. Coming from the valley, this forms the appearance of the building. In the basement, a stone wall stretches along the street. Due to its simplicity and straightness, the building fits into the existing terrain and integrates harmoniously into the landscape.
One of the main themes is the idea of complementary between architecture and nature, the symbiosis among the human actions and the environment. To preserve the memory of the landscape and the mass of the mountains, the building was shaped in a monolithic form, defined by a cladding in wooden slats. Using local larch wood and concrete from the near mountains strengthens the bond with the context, by creating a great sense of belonging. The materials are enhanced by the bond between shape and meaning, in which their own quality is defined by their surfaces and their way of application. The building has the main role to let the people enjoy the beauty of a wild landscape, unspoiled and not yet reduced to the scale of man.
