Originating from the delicate slope of Guiyang's terrain, a group of geometric-shaped building comes into people’s view. Surrounded by lush vegetation, this building is Upward Mansion Kindergarten, which is located in Guanshan Lake District, Guiyang, Guizhou.

The properly arranged, overlapping spaces compose a complex, interesting building. In the kindergarten, you will find an unexpected world different from the small-box like appearance. Instead, the interior is full of childlike imaginative visual experience and creativity, like the scenes in children’s pictures books. Thus, the kindergarten can bring you back to carefree days of climbing and playing in the woods.

When designing the kindergarten, its design team holds the belief that “Warm like a cloud, natural like a tree”. It hopes that in this place, children can explore and enjoy the natural world under the trees. Therefore, natural environment and great imagination are crucial.

With natural colors, such as wood brown, green, beige and light white, the greeting area becomes gentle, clean and relaxed. The shape and posture of the leaves are abstractly turned into colored circles, perfecting the tree as well as serving as the decoration of the ceiling.

The glass round hole in the corridor on the second floor, which is the average size of children, provides an opportunity for children to meet their strong curiosity, as children are always particularly keen to explore the world.

As the most important place for children, the classroom not only meets the diversified curriculum’s needs and children's daily life needs, but also cares about children’s mental health. The presence of structural columns in each classroom is interesting because of the "camouflage" of the design: the extended branches of the big trees are shaped like real wood. The design echoes with the green plants in the courtyard and brings peace and vitality of the natural forest. Simple tables and chairs in round shape and the friendly wooden floor build a highly safe and comfortable fairy tale cabin.

With the concept of "learning through playing", the reading room breaks the stereotype. Instead, its wall bookcases separate it from the overall environment. This open environment makes the atmosphere more relaxed and natural, so as to improve children’s reading abilities. Therefore, the concept of “learning through playing” can be realized.

Upward Mansion Kindergarten makes green plants and trees ubiquitous in the space, prioritizes physical and mental health, and uses design to ensure children’s growth. It is not only a place for children to grow up, but also a treasure box of happy and carefree childhood memories.
