The raw stone becomes the polished diamond. The competition task consisted of vigorously renovating the existing university library from the 70‘s with its impetuously forward and backward tilting facades. Instead of only cutting the concrete elements off the facade, the concrete floors are trimmed in such a way that facade surfaces develop over the entire height of the building. With this simple intervention not only the building surface can be reduced, but moreover the resulting inclined surfaces create strong relations with the surrounding, which could not be more divers: a small terraced house, a classicistic university building, a block development and the representative theatre. The main entrances on east and west façade are defined by cantilevered surfaces and generous vestibules. The vertical and horizontal offsets of the new shape are achieved by directional purposes and the respect for the neighborhood buildings. With fine reflections the building tries to be part of the environment and likewise the environment is part of the building.
