The B06 business park design, crafted for Kovalska Group, is situated on the site of the old KMZ factory, now repurposed as UNIT City, an innovation hub. This project is a testament to how architecture and art can merge to create a space that's not just functional but a vibrant center of creativity and innovation.
Central to this design is the strategic use of lighting and architectural elements to enhance the space's form and atmosphere, creating a visually appealing environment. The lighting, designed by Davide Groppi (Origine), incorporates a mix of focused, ambient, and natural light, which not only emphasizes the architectural features but also brings out the emotional depth of the space.
The development of the design was guided by the client's vision and requirements. To optimize the layout of functional spaces with an eye for traffic flow and ergonomic design, architects analyzed visitor movement patterns. This analysis led to effective zoning that includes a variety of areas such as a welcoming entrance, a lounge by the windows, a reception area, a community space with a discussion table, and an elevator lobby.
Lighting placement over key areas was calculated using a transportation flow algorithm, resulting in an "intuitive lighting navigation" system on the ceiling. This thoughtful lighting strategy, combined with a monochromatic palette, gives the B06 lobby a bright and expansive feel.
The lobby's design elements, including mailboxes, a reception desk, acoustic meeting rooms, a communal table, a lounge area, and an elevator lobby, each have their unique function and aesthetic, contributing to the overall harmony of the space.
A standout feature is the main wall's decoration with a mirror-polished stainless steel piece that curves around the wall's contours, creating a sense of endless space. This metallic surface not only enhances the spatial perception but also produces captivating lighting effects throughout the day, embodying both imagination and reflection.
The seating area, featuring sofas with elegant curves designed by Pierre Paulin and upholstered with fabrics from Kvadrat Textiles, mirrors the metallic wall's design and introduces color to the space. These sofas form inviting, serpentine seating arrangements that enhance the lobby's aesthetic.
The landscape design introduces a sculptural element with a concrete "rock" adorned with greenery, creating a mini oasis within the lobby that cleverly houses a restroom and a technical room. This green mound, set against the curved steel backdrop and next to the sunlit windows, blurs the lines between indoors and outdoors, enriching the space with natural beauty.
A wooden communal table and chairs add warmth to the lobby, showcasing the seamless integration of art and furniture to make the space more enjoyable and inviting.
