Premium footwear label Filling Pieces commissioned FLIP ZIEDSES DES PLANTES design studio to create their first big exhibition in Paris. Filling Pieces is an upcoming Amsterdam-based sneaker brand that fills the gap between streetwear and high-end fashion with unique, contemporary handmade sneakers. The brand's main inspiration sources are architecture, nature and urban culture. This inspires FLIP ZIEDSES DES PLANTES design studio to create "landscapes" rather than displays to exhibit the sneakers. Both urban- and nature inspired landscapes, that support the visual appearance of the vast collection of 400 sneakers. In the center of the big gallery space a long row of metal cabinets form a honeycomb-like wall. The modular structure is overgrown with tropical plants. Concrete elements combined with plants create a raw yet refined look; abstractly reflecting a tropical urban landscape as well as referring to the Surinamese roots of the founder of Filling Pieces. In the smaller gallery space a minimalistic, stylized landscape of tropical black marble rock circles was designed. ‘Breathing light’, slowly moves from one circle to another creating a mystic experience. The objective was to impress the visitors and to communicate the brand’s identity in an abstract way. Mission accomplished. The exhibition was so successful that the brand decided to apply the design (of the white modular wall with concrete elements and plants) in many department stores around the world.
