Tripadvisor, a global leader in travel and tourism, recognised the need to adapt its Oxford office to align with modern workplace dynamics. Previously located in a business park, the office had become underutilised as many employees transitioned to remote work. Tripadvisor set out to reimagine the space into a dynamic, sustainable, and flexible environment that reflects their innovative ethos and the sophistication of a high-end hotel. The goal was to foster creativity, collaboration, and productivity while addressing the diverse needs of its workforce and creating a welcoming space that inspires employees to return on-site.
The design embodies creativity by blending hospitality-inspired aesthetics with Oxford’s architectural heritage. A palette of bronze, caramel, and turmeric, inspired by Oxford’s limestone, creates warmth and sophistication. Geometric patterns echo English Perpendicular Gothic architecture, while contrasting materials, including bespoke dark veneers, add depth and elegance. Biophilic elements, such as wood, stone, and greenery, enhance the aesthetic while promoting well-being and sustainability through natural and renewable materials.
Functionality is at the heart of the layout, featuring activity-based spaces tailored to varying workstyles. The ground floor serves as a vibrant hub with a canteen, collaborative areas, and a ping pong table to foster interaction and team building. The quieter first floor includes whisper rooms and social nooks for focused and individual work, effectively addressing the needs of both high-energy sales teams and tranquil engineering departments.
Innovative technology supports the hybrid workplace model, with advanced video conferencing systems and desk booking platforms streamlining operations. A space utilisation platform provides ongoing insights for optimisation, ensuring the office evolves with changing needs.
Sustainability is further integrated through energy-efficient lighting and carefully engineered acoustics, including baffles inspired by Oxford’s heritage. Adjustable fixtures and sound management create a balanced environment that supports employee well-being while reducing resource consumption.
The redesigned office is a benchmark for modern, sustainable workplace design, delivering creativity, innovation, functionality, and a commitment to employee satisfaction. Its harmonious blend of aesthetics, advanced solutions, and focus on sustainability make it a space that embodies Tripadvisor’s ethos while setting a new standard for office environments.
