The title character Michael Dorsey (Santino Fontana) is a difficult off-Broadway actor who is having trouble finding work until he dresses as a woman—calling himself Dorothy Michaels—and auditions for a Broadway show, nabbing the part. When Michael falls for his cast mate Julie, complications develop that could wreck everything as he tries to maintain his double identity with friends, his agent, and a former lover.
