Outline of work
This work was an installation unveiled in Tokyo Midtown during the holiday season from November to December, 2023. There were regular performances and special performances were done every 15 minutes. These featured various atmospheric scenes of winter, from deep, silent snowfalls, to cold, dancing blizzards. The laser projector and lighting effects were synced with an auto-playing piano on stage, creating a space decorated with overlapping light and sound. The countless spheres designed to resemble gently drifting snow were composed of objects (white balls, crystal, acrylic) reaching roughly 3,400 in number, which were hung from 250 lines at a height of 15m. (*Photographs and videos were taken with the building's lights turned off.)

Challenges and solutions
The production of this work began with a request to create something different from ordinary illumination and decoration that would be original, topical, and appealing. In order to solve these issues, we sought a method different from the usual illumination method of blinking LED light sources. We discovered a method that shines a laser beam of intense light on each object, making it appear as if it were illuminated from within. This method allows for more refined proportions without the need to install LED light sources and wiring in the main structures. At the same time, we also successfully brought forth animated light projections. To make the light appear luminous even during the daytime, we developed a unique application that precisely directs the laser light onto approximately 3,400 objects. In addition, the laser projector is safe even if its light is projected into the viewer's eyes.

About the space
The space we designed was located in the center of a new-style urban complex consisting of a vast green area and six buildings: an environment that could be described as a node for people passing through various stores, restaurants, offices, hotels, green areas, and museums. By placing the installation in this environment, we provided a special experience unique to the holiday season.
