Façade design:
The first floor is a mixture of shop and café often used as co-working space. There is a multi-purpose studio available for rent (2F) and its office (3F) in the building, and each floor has a balcony.
The facade of the whole structure is a massive lattice window without glass made of aluminium, which creates an ambiguous zone between indoor and outdoor space. The area is used as a balcony and connects each floor vertically.
Intrinsically, a window is supposed to separate people from nature, from elements such as wind, heat and glare. In this case, by introducing a big aluminium window without glass, we aimed to blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor.
As a result, it creates an opportunity for pedestrians, customers, shop staff and office members to interact with each other harmoniously.
Interior design:
The concept of interior design is "a laboratory of the living". We combined different materials (its original purpose, usage, appearance, etc.), and aimed to cause a slight sense of incongruity, as well as a question. For example, the first floor of rubber-chipped tiles, usually used in outdoor stadiums, was introduced to gently support the legs and to let people stay longer. The black wall at the centre of the shop is a combination of 60 black-painted Zukou Chairs, known as ordinary chairs in the Arts & Crafts Room at a Japanese primary school.
The intention is that the initial incongruous impression will evoke nostalgia and excitement.
