I designed this building with an intention to present visitors with a new experience and, at the same time, remind them that they are in a city with a long history. From this intention, I came up with the a concept simultaneously living in two periods or “Ancient and Modern time."This leads to the creation of five oval spiral staircases, which give both vertical and horizontal dimensions to the space, creating different views. There is an area for visitors, while climbing the stairs, to walk and pause for others to go first. These staircases are in fact very lengthy, but we managed to put them inside this small box of building.
The spiral staircases aid the circulation and the structure by strengthening pillars, and even function as a sculpture. When the visitors see the stairs, they feel an urge to walk on each and every one of them.
A bar counter, tables and chairs are designed to blend in with the structure of the building. We consider pieces of furniture a part of the whole architecture.
The Wine Ayutthaya is in the middle between an interior architecture and a landscape architecture in an indiscriminate and timeless continuum.
