“Danshari” is the art of de-cluttering. It is a lifestyle of voluntary simplicity, through “cutting off”, “throwing away”, and “letting go” of materialism.

To address the owners' concerns in spaciousness, functionality and the balancing of public and private zones, the design “cuts off” all unnecessary partitioning to create an unobstructed view within the flat, and thus instantly increases the sense of spaciousness. By “throwing away” all impractical design details and extravagant ornaments, the flat dons a minimal style. To “let go” of the traditional partitioning method, the designer chooses to delineate areas of different functions with various materials and colors.

Glass and timber are introduced to replace the traditional ways of partitions. Glass provides transparency and demonstrates modernism, while timber brings in elements of nature and add warmth. Sunlight is captured to brighten the rooms, and achieve the sense of spaciousness.

To further establish an industrial style preferred by the owners, a color scheme of black, grey and white is applied. These complementary colors blend with each other, layer upon layer, to create different shades for a

unified theme – neat and simple.
