Korean Cultural Center is a non-profit institution aligned with the Government of South Korea that aims to promote and educate Korean culture and facilitates cultural exchanges. TeoYang Studio in Seoul was commissioned to remodel the exclusive reception space of the Korean Cultural Center in Beijing, which hosts very important guests and events.
As a result of the project we needed a space, which speaks Korean traditional contents in a modern way. A functional diplomatic space with Korean aesthetic, which caters from casual tea meeting to a major session of twelve officials. But mostly we hoped this space to play the role for foreign visitors to be interested and be willing to learn about Korean culture. The studio aimed to bring back the ancestral contents and values that would provide meaning to the space, and that contents and values were the traditional Korean way of welcoming guests to their homes. From the carefully hand carved wooden entrance to the welcome tea sets, the space showcases various traditional craftsmanship that will continuously talk about Korea’s heritage.
