The Village Works is a neighborhood coworking space co-founded by a team of designer-developers. The unique “work near home” model calls for an environment that performs like an office but feels as welcoming as home, where members move seamlessly between work and life. TVW is a living laboratory of design for productivity, wellness and happiness at work during the day. In the evening, the space hosts parties and events. The co-founding team—an interior architect, an architectural designer and a developer-builder—infused human-scale design into every element of the four-story shared workspace, which includes collaborative and quiet cowork zones, a cafe area, meeting and phone rooms, private bathrooms, and offices. A steel, mesh and plywood stair connects the vertical layout, creating playful environments in modern, tactile materials that complement the historic shell. As both designers and operators, the TVW team can both observe and react in real time to real use cases. The interiors and selections were envisioned to maximize flexibility and play, to remain adaptable as the community shifts and grows. The TVW team designed the interiors, including glazing, partitions, lighting, materials and furniture selections, and space programming, collaborating closely with the architect, design-build fabricator, lighting consultant, contractors and custom furniture craftsman.
