TSH Florence Lavagnini awakens from what has long been called The Sleepy Palace into The Dream Palace, breathing life into an underserved area of the city with a modern palazzo. Our challenge was to illuminate the building’s architecture and heritage, such as its original marble floors, dramatic staircases and frescoes, while revitalizing the building and surrounding area.
The building’s history is apparent with the two historic arched passageways that form the grand entranceway. The colored light tubes lining the entranceway’s walls and the pink swings that dangle from the ceiling are modern touches that set the stage for fun. An art-filled internal courtyard anchors the hotel, providing guests and city residents with a new community space. In the courtyard and across the hotel, art will evolve, with TSH providing a stage for ‘living’ installations that contrast with the masterpieces of Florence.
Communal areas were designed with an energetic and inspiring vibe that encourages connectivity among students, guests and locals. Inspired by Memphis and Architecture Radicale styling cues, communal areas are brought to life with locally sourced, traditional materials, colorful graphics and geometric patterns. Materials like corten steel and glass have been used to create modern touches against the building’s original features.
The pinnacle of the hotel is its Tuscan-themed rooftop pool and bar that boast Florence’s best views of the Duomo.
