Located on the ground floor of The Standard Singapore, the Cafe Standard with its indoor and outdoor seating is designed to be seamless extension of the reception lobby. where plant-filled nooks with an inviting bar, quirky couches and cocktails await. The custom-designed light installation floats lightly above head: a colour-filled anti-chandelier channelling a distinctive mid-century modern vibe. Mid-century modern inspired custom furniture pieces are nestled within the timber fluted columns, creating a variety of cozy seating nooks to enjoy light bites and a cocktail. - Jovian Lim
The Standard Singapore’s lobby features curving walls adorned with warm timber battens which invite guests at the front entrance, leading them into the lobby area, with its mid-century modern design sensibilities showcased at the reception. The reception counter conceived by MOD, resembles an oversized terrarium, and showcases a delightful tongue-in-cheek botanically-inspired installation by artist Eric Tobua. This unique glass fronted display of the reception counter’s design is also a nod to “The Box”, the glass enclosure art installation made famous in the original Standard Hollywood for posing the live models in themed environments. MOD’s design revives this by showcasing an entire tongue-in-cheek tropical ecosystem replete with palm trees, giant snails and psychedelic flora. - Jovian Lim

A) The Standard Singapore celebrates the brand’s Mid-Century Modern DNA amid a tropical Singapore context, with creative and innovative approaches:

1. The Standard is famed for its irreverent & immersive take on hospitality.
2. In Singapore, lush greenery both inside-and-out pays homage to SG as a “City-in-a-Garden”, celebrating tropicality in the Reception’s oversized terrarium counter, Kaya Restaurant’s botanical mural and hanging greenery above.
3. The reception counter resembles an oversized terrarium, as a nod to “The Box”, the glass-enclosure art installation, made famous in original Standard Hollywood for posing live models in themed environments. MOD’s design revives this by showcasing an entire tongue-in-cheek tropical ecosystem replete with palm trees, giant snails and psychedelic flora.
4. In Kaya Restaurant, Our interiors play up the hotel’s love for biophilia & mid-century modern, intensifying it through a dramatic ceiling scape of hanging greenery, and an immersive botanically-inspired mural by artist Saran Yen Panya, with 3D tapestry & brocade.
5. All the indoor furniture and lighting were custom designed by MOD, to achieve the Standard’s mid-century modern aesthetic, e.g. ‘orbiting’ lights in Café Standard extend from brass rods into the different corners, helping to create a sense of human scale amidst the tall slender space.
6. An ‘S’ shaped banquette anchors the arrival space in Kaya, flanked by custom furniture, e.g. marquetry inspired communal table and woven dining chairs.

B) The Standard Singapore was designed to push the design envelope in guestroom typology, e.g. compact 23 sqm king room, a social-friendly twin room & event-friendly suite.
1. Guestrooms: to maximize 23sqm, ensuring practicality yet an enhanced guest experience:
a. open wardrobe via sculptural 3D-milled timber hanger/clothing rack
b. drawers for storage under beds
c. custom bedside ledges with integrated light switches and power points, cantilevered off walls and floors for easier cleaning
d. custom playful "best buds" minibar comprises 2 distinctive but complementary abutting halves so it looks lighter
2. The Twin Room celebrates the social aspect of traveling with a friend, and explores how 2 guests can enjoy their own private space on edge-flanking beds, yet come together socially around the central banquette and table, all in 23 sqm room.
3. The “Suite Spot” is decidedly residential, with the ability to transform into an active event space with its own premium bar. The Master room’s murphy bed folds up to provide more space adjacent to the dining area, this suite is popular for lifestyle brands’ fashion shootsor product launches.

C) The Standard Singapore meets sustainability initiatives:
The hotel was designed to meet sustainability imperatives, e.g. “Singapore Green Label” timber flooring, “SGS certification” timber wall panels, Nippon paint with low VOC, energy-saving LED lights, and sanitary fittings marked with WELS Singapore 3 ticks.
