Lighting designer

The project is a private garage for our client’s collection of automobiles. In this space, the cars are most sensitive to light because of their ultra-polished bodies, reflecting the image of the environment on their curves, which are especially beautiful when they are in motion. With this aesthetic appreciation of the cars vs space, we are able to build a dialogue between the two. Our design goal is to use lighting effects, spatial atmosphere and materials to exhibit the client’s collection by highlighting the contours and motions of the cars. We use shotcrete/concrete as monolithic finish materials for all the floor and walls, except for features we like to draw your attention to. All the atmospheric manipulation is achieved solely by the innovative use of materials and lights. Strategically designed lightings wash on different textures to strengthen its visual impact, making the smooth smoother, the rough more masculine, and the shapes more dynamic. We see the garage as a series of fragmented spaces, with a string of light that wraps around the edge of the ground, the spaces are linked together. The upper portion of the space is left dark and blurry because we want to express the motion of moving vehicles on the ground with a path of bright light, which is also narrated by the tyre-mark shaped granite inlays set into the concrete floor. As a finale of the journey, we custom-made 3 bronze light fixtures that showcase the WOW moment.
