Parkside project is a 1700-square-foot living area in Hong Kong. An overhaul on layout was designed and delicately executed to relieve sense of confinement from the initial rectangular partition. Sharp edges of partition walls were “eroded” away to form a sigmoid wall. The smooth curvature, with a floor to ceiling window which allows flood of sunlight creating a cozy ambience, extends from a limited sight to an alluring panoramic view.

Apart from that, the incurvation delineates a clear boundary between public and private zones. Their interplay can also be achieved through opening up doors unveiling mystery of interiors to allow a high degree of flexibility in spatial usage. For instance, a study room is concealed behind the arc. When the curvy sliding doors are unclosed, it thus interacts with living room forming an additional space for wine appreciation.

The flexibility is not the only attraction. Presentation of contradictory materials and textures is instead the director to constitute style of masculinity and overall mood. Employing polished metallic wallpaper on the curve next to rough concrete surface has established a contrast in texture. Also, a geometrical pattern marked on rugged concrete ceiling echoes with hexagonal shaped tiles on floor to conceive continuity of motif. Speaking of divergence of material use, a wooden false ceiling was exquisitely constructed to deliver sensation of embracing into change from a raw natural feeling to an industrialized style.
