In 2017 we were challenged to do just that for a Czech interior design festival called SquatID, organized by Insidecor. We were to choose one of several available flats, all roughly 180 square meters in size, on the top floor of a residential condominium. We fell in love with the concrete interiors of the space, which at the time had not yet been divided into partitions. We chose a flat that had an option to add more rooms to it, for expansion into an entertainment-style dwelling. The concept of entertainment was central to the project. Our client was described by the festival organizers as a visionary, successful businessman, traveler, and gadget lover who insisted on the use of natural materials. We divided the space into different functions -- entertainment with TV and sound system, bar with fireplace, the "signature space“ with a wine cooler, custom Honda motorcycle. A comfortable modular sofa was placed in one open space, a bedroom with a whirlpool was separated from the entertainment area by walk-in closet and glass, the sauna and guest rooms were divided into spaces walled with brick and veneer. Inbuilt cabinets were used to separate the spaces. Going for a sort of unfinished look, we used many materials in their raw form. We treated the metal sheets on the floor with only a transparent powder coating to see the patina; laser-cut coloring created a unique surface. Using exterior brick cladding in the interior, with just a coating of transparent lacquer, enhanced the rough feel of the walls. Ceramic elements in the bathrooms were arranged vertically. All surfaces had a warm, earthy color, so we managed to keep the atmosphere tranquil and welcoming. Furniture was also a crucial part of our concept and design for the flat. With furniture, we worked with patterns rather than color. Oak was either stained gray or transformed into vertical lathing. Quartzite stone was intentionally used in its unpolished form. Sofas, as well as cushions and bed linen, featured protruding seams. We used bathroom taps that matched the pattern of the motorcycle's hardware.
