Situated in the suburban outskirts of Melbourne’s south-west, Holiday Inn Werribee by Studio Tate crafts an approachable and design-minded tone for the iconic accommodation brand. Drawing on the principles of the Memphis Design Movement, the four storey, 150-room hotel is awash with vivid hues, eye-catching textures and striking geometries. While the design language varies between guest rooms, dining, bar and lounge areas, conference rooms and events spaces, each interior is linked through subtle green accents – a nod to Holiday Inn’s quintessential brand colour.

A series of elemental concierge points in stainless steel and cloudy natural stone are shrouded by a dramatic green velvet curtain, crafting a warm, welcoming and playful tone as a precursor to the greater hotel proposition. A porosity of the layout by anchoring lounge zones with permeable screens and dramatic light features, creating visual continuity across the floorplate, and encouraging an atmosphere of interaction and conviviality.

IHG Green Engage system to measure and manage the impact of the development on the environment. The lounge areas intuitively lead to a corner bar offering wide-ranging city views. Designed as a spirited complement, the adjacent dining area is punctuated with a cobalt blue tiled bench and surrounded by a variety of cafe-style seating arrangements. The expansive conference spaces are given a human scale through a series of dramatic archways. Throughout, the hotel’s confident and whimsical language is highlighted in playful material pairings – such as the deep reds, rosy dappled stone and white gridded tiling in the conference room bathrooms.

Situated on floors 8–11, the guest rooms feature a soft, tonal palette offset by a custom checkered bedhead of energetic green tones. Generous amenities, ample in-built and exposed storage, a gold mirrored mini bar and a spacious desk for guests. Denim blue feature walls, deep ink and emerald-toned joinery, terrazzo tiling and pastel upholstery accents extend the hotel narrative to every touchpoint, enriching the guest experience down to the finest detail.

Applying environmental consciousness, Holiday Inn Werribee employs a number of sustainable initiatives, including automated LED lighting to minimise energy usage, 5 star solar-boosted hot water systems to supply the development with a 20 percent energy contribution, 5 star electric heating and cooling, 5 star WELS rated fixtures, rainwater tanks and a IHG Green Engage system to measure and manage the impact of the development on the environment. Throughout, Studio Tate’s considered design methodology crafts a rich and memorable guest experience – allowing the established legacy of the Holiday Inn brand to reach new heights through the thoughtful interplay of contemporary art, considered design and technology.

The result is a distinctive and enticing hotel proposition, establishing Holiday Inn Werribee as a compelling destination in its own right.
