The green o is a sophisticated woodland hideaway comprised of 12 design-forward "Haus" accommodations and located in a remote township of Montana. The retreat is a hidden gem designed for adults searching for the perfect blend of adventure and serenity, with touches of Montana woven throughout every element of the design aesthetic. the green o lies at the southern edge of the expansive 37,000-acre Paws Up Ranch, which is also home to The Resort at Paws Up—an adventure destination known for its luxury homes and for pioneering the "glamping" trend in North America nearly 20 years ago. A massive departure from the "rustic chic" design ethos of Paws Up, the green o is a demonstration of the ranch-owning family reaching beyond their comfort zones to develop a starkly contrasting Scandinavian-inspired design experience on the same working cattle ranch. A design concept that came about decades ago as a paper napkin scribble from one of the owners was finally brought to life. the green o was designed to help guests celebrate the scenic beauty and flora and fauna of the Montana timberland—with sustainability and environmental considerations at the forefront. For example, building sites for each Haus were identified that would accommodate construction without cutting down trees or disturbing the land. Less than a dozen mature pines were lost in the two-year construction of the green o. Other sustainability initiatives include: • Construction method used to raise some Hauses off the natural forest floor • Rooftop decks featured for observation of surrounding forest canopy • Minimal gas vehicles are allowed on property, and a private Lexus hybrid vehicle is provided for each guest to drive to the green o. (This effort helps to reduce noise pollution and our overall carbon footprint.) Electric carts are utilized for guest transportation within the resort. • Eco-friendly lighted walking trails and lighting systems installed • Mountain bikes provided for each Haus for transportation, exercise and relaxation • Recycled asphalt utilized for cart path road bed to reduce dust and noise pollution • The crushed rock used for the green o’s walking paths was generated on property in the Ranch’s own rock quarry. As a result, rock did not have to be trucked in from distant locations for the project.
