CLIENT: M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark. MAIN OBJECTIVE: To create new cultural experiences across generations. Facilitating the personal stories by creating a space where generations can be together, play together and where the older generation can share their stories - strengthening the bond across generations. -Strengthen the joy of the sea and the knowledge of the maritime life. -To create a visionary project that provides new knowledge and methods for including older people in museum communication THE TARGETGROUP: Children and older people. Preschoolers and early schoolage - children 3-10 years. Older people + 65, grandparents and retired people, eventually with a background within the maritime field or yard work. THE SPACE: 1)300sqm, 5 degree sloping space, a ” bridge” across the dry dock with glassfacades on each side. To be designed as a play and learning area. 2)100sqm maritime workshop to be designed for flexible purpose; workshop and education. DESIGNBRIEF: Make a play and learning area for children age 3-10 years, taking inspiration from a motor ship from the 50´s as for design language and maritime detailing. In order to address both the target group and the architectural context we worked with the concept of authentic vs. abstract. The play and learning area of The Dream Ship is an abstraction of a motor ship, addressing some of the functions you have on a motorship, but not always in a realist way. Tactility and design for intuitive play has been key.
