"Opening the ground level of the center office to the city" KOKUYO has converted the ground level of its 40-year-old office building in Tokyo into an urban park. The area is a mix of lounges, parks, shops, cafes, libraries, labs, greens and art. We intend to bring together local citizens and workers to create an organic scene that has never been seen in an office district. Issue and Vision: We have tackled two challenges through this project. The workspace is rapidly moving online with COVID-19, do we need a city center office? What features should remain in the center office? Our vision is to return the center office to the local society and create a social and corporate ecosystem. The area of the private office was cut in half, and the ground level was converted into a public space like a park open to the neighborhood. It provides a fascinating places and cultural experiences for locals and workers. How can workers develop their creativity for an uncertain future? KOKUYO is a company that builds office spaces and manufactures stationery with the vision of "be Unique. We will continue to stimulate people’s inner creativity to bring out everyone’s uniqueness." In order to accelerate the creativity of workers, we are working to add diversity and cultural functions to the business district and create a scene where work and life are more integrated. It was like a university campus, where diverse people could freely gather and not only work, but also learn, experiment, play, get in touch with culture, and allow various activities. Space Design: "Many PATHS leading to the city " The central part of the three buildings that originally existed was dismantled to create an open PARK. Since the site is located on the corner, we intentionally created many openings on the old building wall to provide a paths for the wind and people. "A symbolic STAIRCASE where people can gather" Various stairs and stages were inserted into the two old buildings to create a place to stay and relax. The curved stairs and bridges with an organic design has a good contrast with the solid building, which is a symbol of this place. Guests can find their favorite place on the grand staircase that connects the outside and the inside. " A GROVE that bring an inspiring walking experience" Tall trees cover the entire ground level, creating continuity with the streets. It provides an inspiring experience like exploring the forest. In addition to trees, this floor is filled with art, books, coffee, exciting products and musical instruments, prototypes and communication staff. This "chaos" and "flexible" atmosphere stimulates people's creativity. There are 230 kinds of greens, such as those with unique shapes and those that are edible, and the landscape changes every day. We believe that this project deserves innovation in the following three points. - Design a future model of the center office, where one company transforms its office building into a dynamic public space for the neighborhood - Create a semi-public, semi-outdoor landscape for work and life that accelerates people's creativity - Open environment and program management to create an innovation ecosystem between companies and society
