The Bridge recently opened in September of 2017 as part of Cornell Tech's new campus on Roosevelt Island located in New York City’s East River. One-third of the building hosts Cornell Tech studios, labs, classrooms, and event spaces, while the upper levels are dedicated to a mix of technology-focused companies and start-ups. As a result, the building houses an extraordinary mix of pioneering companies working alongside groundbreaking academic teams: from recent graduates hustling to commercialize an idea, to start-ups on the verge of explosive growth, and established companies developing pioneering technologies. The building was developed in partnership with Forest City New York and, together with the Cornell Tech interior spaces, designed by WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism. The Bridge is designed to promote and support a culture of collaboration. The building features light-filled circulation spaces with expansive river-to-river views and that encourage researchers to linger and converse. On the entry level, a centrally-located Tech Gallery features terraced lounges that support informal meetings between academics and entrepreneurs. A double-height “Master Studio” is filled with movable tables, chairs and tiered seating to support a wide range of learning activities. This space is furthermore supported by eight labs equipped with the latest fabrication, electronic, and robotics technologies to support groundbreaking research initiatives.
