Creativity:
The Terminal at Katy Trail reimagines urban living by blending historical inspiration with modern sophistication. The design draws from the grandeur of historic train stations, incorporating tactile materials like imported brick, stone, and patinated metals. This nod to the past is reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, creating a timeless architectural identity. Generous arched facades echo the sense of arrival associated with iconic train terminals while offering open-air, covered spaces for dining and gathering. The rich interiors feature brass, stone, and wooden details that work together to create a sophisticated ambiance. Each of the 16 residences is designed to offer a respite of tranquility in the heart of Dallas, offering an oasis that is both luxurious and intimate amidst the bustling city life.
Innovation:
The Terminal pushes the boundaries of mixed-use design with its seamless integration of residential, commercial, and public spaces. The ground floor is activated by a thoughtfully designed pedestrian arcade that encourages connectivity between the Katy Trail and Fitzhugh Avenue. This pathway enlivens the retail and restaurant spaces and redefines urban accessibility by prioritizing walkability and community interaction. Below-grade parking liberates the ground plane for a public pocket park, enhancing green space and creating a direct trail connection. Residences feature substantial outdoor terraces with irrigated planting beds that utilize collected stormwater, a forward-thinking feature that bridges indoor and outdoor living.
Functionality:
The Terminal at Katy Trail creates spaces that cater to diverse users while maintaining a cohesive vision. Each of the 16 residences is uniquely designed, averaging 3,840 square feet, with expansive terraces that offer sweeping views of the city’s tree canopy. The residences maximize natural light and airflow through operable windows, ensuring a tranquil, airy living environment. The integration of ground-floor commercial spaces, including restaurant concepts Rose Café and Le Passage, fosters a lively, community-oriented atmosphere while maintaining the privacy of the upper-level homes. The boutique scale of the project ensures an intimate experience for residents, while the omnidirectional building design—offering welcoming facades on every side—serves both pedestrians and trail users.
Sustainability:
The Terminal at Katy Trail demonstrates sustainability through innovative water management and wellness-focused amenities. A 1,000-gallon system taps into the Turtle Creek aquifer to irrigate greenery, reducing reliance on municipal water. The project also integrates wellness by including Alive and Well, a center offering services like IV therapy and sound baths, fostering health-conscious urban living.
