1.Innovation
Radioactivity and radioactive waste. Out of sight, out of mind, or is it closer than we imagine? Tabloo is one of world’s most innovative, leading experiential exhibitions that brings this invisible world to light. What is radioactivity? How is radioactive waste managed? What nuclear applications are being explored?
Tabloo explicitly targets young visitors with edutainment of the highest quality. The most innovative museum techniques are used. Visitors are familiarised with scientific-technical topics and ethical issues in a playful way. The expo makes them aware of the challenges we face in the future and inspires them to contribute to a better world. Emotion takes centre stage in a scientific environment.
2.Functionality
The expo focuses on visitors. We hold their attention with aesthetics, humour, intuitive setups, and variety! We focus on a mix of analogue, digital, and immersive setups. Young audiences are stimulated by the expressive, sometimes wacky graphic style. With collages, we bring humour, recognisable people, and tangible objects into the story. We bring clear messages in accessible, inspiring setups. The setups are designed so that people can operate them intuitively. They stimulate visitors to experiment. We select materials that radiate warmth and make the spaces acoustically pleasing.
3.Creativity
The scenography is light, aesthetic, and artistic. The space is divided into different zones. Each space has its own angle. Visitors enter a different atmosphere, a different world each time.
Complex scientific stories are translated into visual constellations that inspire thinkers and dreamers alike. Young audiences like this approach: they appreciate the visual way of making complex material comprehensible. The verdict of the jury of the Henry van de Velde Awards 2023: ‘The scenography makes abstract concepts more understandable. Everything is aligned, attractive to its target audience, and forms a total experience.’
4.Sustainability
The use of sustainable materials and the longevity of the expo are the pillars of the design. Several setups were covered with felt panels made from recycled PET, providing pleasant acoustics.
Extensive trend research preceded the design: the scenography had to be robust, both ‘futureproof’ and ‘foolproof’. Tabloo’s interactive setups can take a beating!
The tone of the expo is both critical and optimistic: young people are the future—they find inspiration and support in the expo. Tabloo was created in collaboration with international scientists and the local community. Thanks to that intensive co-creation process, we are able to shed light on radioactivity from many different angles and the area feels connected to the visitors’ centre. The region has gained a new tourism asset: Tabloo creates additional jobs and re-values the surrounding natural areas.
