We were approached by The Institute of Competitive Socialising to develop the design concept for their new venture, Swingers – an 18 hole, crazy golf venue in the heart of the City. Hot off the success of their groundbreaking series of pop-ups, we undertook the ambitious brief – transform a derelict, cavernous, subterranean space, a stone's throw from London’s iconic Gherkin, into a whimsical interpretation of the heyday of golf. Drawing much of our inspiration from the 20’s and 30’s, interior designer Zachary Pulman and the rest of the design team focused on innovative ways to marry elements of the traditional clubhouse with more modern, contemporary elements. With a deliberately eccentric combination of recognisable architectural features as references – from picket fences to Corinthian columns, we successfully created a bright, vibrant and contemporary scheme. The team also worked closely with the food purveyors and venue sponsors to carefully incorporate their brand identities – largely through our use of colour and treatment of space – into the design. Swingers City opened in May 2016 to rave reviews and has been incredibly successful to date.
