The competition was for an interior design with great flexibility and multipurpose use. One of the design challenges was designing a space that can be broken down into smaller areas with more flexible use. The main aim and success for this design is the successful design flexibility including vibrant common spaces that promote both collaboration and privacy, digitally connected conference and meeting rooms that are easily reconfigured to facilitate meetings of different sizes and needs, exhibition spaces and reception spaces. For this project, the detailing is in the materials. The materials can do a lot more than making a place look nice. By using a specific material like wood it sets an overall tone for the space, but by detailing it in a specific way we were able to change that tone to what we wanted people to feel. In the detailing we thought about what we wanted the wood to show. We thought about what type of wood we wanted to choose. We thought about as well what kind of materials work best with wood and where to place it. In the project the use of the wood is to accent the walls but not overpowering the room. The wood really works with the other materials in that room, making a very complimentary set of natural colors. The design solution is thorough down to the last detail, we think that the beauty in any project is always in the detailing, because little things make big things happen. It is the little details that are vital in this project.
