The project accommodates a fast food restaurant in the urban center of Sofia on a major city boulevard. We have started the design program with our clients a couple of years ago, with their first restaurant that recorded a great success and popularity. We present the second restaurant, at a new location, in an original historical context. The removal of a plasterboard lining of the walls and a suspended ceiling has opened a lot of previously unused space, revealing a historical masonry brick arch and a Prussian vault. The height of the facade windows was extended to its original size, allowing a lot more natural light inside. The new steel window frame was enriched by a handcrafted mechanism for automatic closing of the entrance door. The host building is old and authentic. Each feature of the given space is irregular and specific, making it a challenge to organize. These factors generated the idea for a fluid organisation of the space, designing circular tables with various diameter and height. The generous height of the space has been inhabited by large hung circular chandeliers, corresponding to the organised chaos of the circular tables. The furnishing was contextually designed for the specific case. The drawings on the Prussian vaults are interpreting the classical style drawings, using cooking motives instead of the classical floral ones. The vivid brand colors are a main feature in the depth of the interior, creating a playful and diverse environment.
