STONES is a small office of a stone company. It was planned on the 18th floor of a skyscraper in Sendai, that was damaged by the great earthquake in 2011.

The power of nature is overwhelming. Humans are helpless against big earthquakes. On the other hand, however, humans derive great power from nature. Stone is one of them.

The spatial design of STONES is based on the concept of such evoking the natural power of stones. It is an attempt to excavate the stones buried in the volcano island of japan and redefine them as components of space.

A desk work area, a meeting area, and a showroom area for visitors are arranged practically. Ancient Japanese tuff was used for the walls and sliced stone from a nearby river for the partitions. Materialistic, but they evoke a material space with erotic sensations.

The concrete floor, which had been cracked by the great earthquake, was left as it was to prove that humans coexist with nature.
