“STATIONS Minatomirai” is a satellite office composed mainly by the custom-designed modular frame system which allows flexible space configurations.
The project has been launched to create a shared office to accommodate the diverse working styles of entire employees in the pandemic situation and to promote future co-creations beyond their specialties. Our aim is to create the “Third Workplace,” which is a flexible space between home and office for the employees of Sony Group Corporation. The satellite office is designed to be (1) Sustainable – using functional systems and materials that are good to people and the environment, (2) Comfortable – a safe and secure space where people can work comfortably and (3) Flexible – a modular space that can be modified and adapted to any other multiple locations in the future.
In order to create a space that can be changed flexibly depending on the way people work and connect each other, the entire space consists of a modular system with grid frames on the ceiling and bases on the floor at regular intervals. Although the current layout is mainly for individual work, the system allows for flexible reconfiguration of the space, with columns, wall panels, lighting, shelves, and desks, to increase the seating capacity for group work if necessary. Additionally, the module system contributes to sustainable constructions by eliminating excessive building works, reducing the builder’s workloads, and shortening the construction period.
The tone and manner are decided to be natural, soft and deep green. Neutral colors, soft fabrics, and wood textures are used throughout the space to create a comfortable atmosphere, and the small amount of metal texture is a design accent. The mixture of real and artificial plants created a pleasant environment like a conservatory. In addition, each area is designed with different sounds and scents to encourage the employees to concentrate, relax, and collaborate. For the first time in an office space, “Triporous™” fibers have been used for wall panels and stools. Triporous is a new sustainable material developed by Sony Group, derived from rice husks. The fabric has a high deodorant and antibacterial effects with Triporous which can be maintained by washing. Additionally, every seat installs a sensor to monitor the real time occupancy, so the reservations can be made easily, and the maximum number of people in the space is maintained to avoid congestions. The occupancy data is also utilized to improve the workspace continuously.
“STATIONS Minatomirai” is designed to be constantly updated depending on the way we work and connect with people in line with current trends.
