STAR X

“Landing On Mars In Xinjiang” by Alexander Wong Architects

"STAR X", recently completed in Urumqi, City of Xinjiang, China is the second cinema created for Sunway Movie Park by Alexander Wong Architects. Compared to their first project named "Future Wild" popularized by its iconic "Pegasus Stairway", also completed in Urumqi (2014), "STAR X" is even more futuristic-looking and mind-blowing in concept. Inspired by Sci-fi Movie Classics like "2001 : A Space Odyssey" (1968) by Stanley Kubrick, "Interstellar" (2014) By Christopher Nolan, the "Star Wars" Series and many other Iconic images from similar movies, the design intention of the cinema is to create an extreme experience nothing less memorable than one similar to "Landing On Mars" for all movie-goers alike.

Key features of “STAR X” include the giant “String Theory Logo” at the Main Entrance Lobby, “Super Tree Column” at Box Office & Concession Bar, “Space Chamber Ceiling”, “STAR X Wall Panels”, “Enterprise” Cinema House Pattern, “Alien” Signage and most mind-blowing of them all, the neon blue “Interstellar Portal” for entering the cosmic restrooms.

Completed in 2018 with an area of 3,200 square meters in total, the construction cost of "STAR X" with 8 cinema houses is around 2 million US dollars.

So for Xinjiang at least, Mars has finally arrived!
