A renovation project to convert a deserted 50 year old former Japanese confectionery into a clothing store. Two reinforced concrete towers (3 story high /2 story high) were extended, refurbished into a complex building within the 50 years. Fruit trees were planted around the dismantled entrance area. Unlike ordinary gardening and gardeners, the trees were planted with enough space to grow freely, which will eventually grow into an aspect to decorate the facade. The existing floor of the staircase functions as a skylight connecting the 1st and 2nd floor, and the shape of the exhaust duct was turned into an outdoor glass table and skylight. Every existing structure was sublimated into a shop fixture. To strengthen the characteristics of this complex structure, our mission was to design by “demolishing”. This demolishment gave the space a horizontal and vertical connection. The two structures were connected with a bridge, while the approach of each floor guide the customers in and out of the rooms. In addition the plants placed on the roof top, mid-terrace, and entrance give the customers a comfortable feeling to step outside. Throughout the floor composition and the placement of the fixtures, the blind areas were transformed into the character of this project. Fixtures where designed to fit each brand. This is a comfortable space where blockage and openness overlaps.
