Someting has been operating in Nanjing for over 30 years and is one of the earliest brands to deeply engage in Italian-style living and home collections. It has a 3000-square-meter showroom located in Shilin Decoration Mall. With the downturn in the real estate market, traditional home furnishing malls have gradually lost their advantages, and the rise of online channels has changed shopping methods. To respond to this change, redefining the function of the showroom has become an inevitable choice, with immersive displays becoming the key breakthrough. The design thinking draws from the concept of a gallery, transforming the traditional sales space into an exhibition space focused on experience and ceremony. Each brand’s display is carefully designed according to its tone, with furniture exhibited as if it were artwork. Commercial appeals are subtly integrated, and customers naturally experience the aesthetics of life within the space.
“Water” is the core design element, stemming from Nanjing's geographical and cultural background, with the Yangtze River and Qinhuai River giving the city a deep historical significance. Water is also a symbol of Italian art. The designer used a membrane structure to simulate mist, covering the old facade of the Decoration City, bringing it a modern and artistic feel. This design is simple yet poetic, capturing the dynamism of mountains and rivers and the elegance of Eastern aesthetics. The gallery-like space isolates the exhibition area from the surrounding environment with water features, and a cantilevered bridge connects it to the city street. Visitors entering the space already experience a ritualistic atmosphere. Light filters through the membrane structure, casting soft light, and the water, reflections, and sheer curtains intertwine to create a serene beauty, evoking an aesthetic expectation in customers.
The showroom is seen as the "ideal city" for furniture, where every detail is meticulously designed. On the first floor, a “city ruin” made of exposed concrete is designed. The heavy walls create intimacy and break the sense of order in the space, forming a flowing and organic layout. On the second floor, an elliptical plaza is designed with semi-transparent curtains surrounding its boundaries, softening the space’s solemnity and giving an experience that blends modernity with history. Visitors wander through the circular corridors, passing through different exhibition areas, each filled with an artistic atmosphere. The commercial displays naturally merge with cultural enjoyment. Products are discovered by customers as they continue to tour the space, and the design of the space transforms commercial behavior into an artistic experience, allowing customers to complete their shopping experience in comfort and joy.
