The 'Small House Big Door' is a boutique hotel located in Korea that opened in 2014, and a place beloved by hipsters and designers. This project is about remodeling the bistro that had been operated with the same concept as the hotel for 6 years into an independent space. ‘Studio haè’ undertook the project creating new brand with the completely different image while inheriting original identities. The new name ‘Sogadaemun’, which is Korean pronunciation of Small House Big Door in Chinese character, is new but most Asians can recognize that it is related to the existing hotel right away. It all started from the question, ‘What elements can make a huge difference using small effects?’ We focused on the colors, and made a photogenic element at every end of the moving line, trying to make a perfect visual change. While the original interior used the color red and blue with white background, new brand uses dark background with drastic use of red and blue colors, giving it a whole new different look. Also ‘Studio haè’ wanted to provide soft atmosphere by adding curves and round shapes into the space that was mainly structured with straight lines, and furniture played the great role of the complementation. The standard chair of the french architecture Jean Prouvé who used metal with warm mood, and for that the photogenic door part that applied his design language was the best solution. Using red and blue in each BI, light, and interior, we have completed creating a space that can evoke fresh and diverse senses. This may also go along with the design trend in today's diversified society. The concept of ‘lovely mess with red, blue and curves’ can be seen in the small detail of the space.
