The project is located in a French-style building typical of the1920’s Mexican architecture of the Roma neighborhood of Mexico City and it is home to Casa Virginia, a restaurant owned by the renowned Mexican chef, Mónica Patiño, where authentic homemade culinary meals are served. The new 20 m2 space operates independently from the restaurant and it was created out of the need for a space that could offer a pairing and cocktail bar service of mezcal and bourbon. The entrance to the living room consists of an access booth with double doors that help block outside noise, creating an intimate and snug space. The wooden booth is extended throughout the wall surrounding the drinks bar, giving it spatial hierarchy. To one side, there is a cedar wood bar with Art deco accents and a solid Tepeaca gray marble counter top. The bar is the central element and it allows for free circulation on either side, thus allowing for effortless and easy movement; it is complemented by a vintage mirror on the back wall which gives depth to the space. Across from the access booth and along the whole width of the wall, there is a wooden platform lined with seat and back cushions in natural linen, forming a communal bench. The bench is flanked by volcanic stone tables creating a dynamic and evolving space.
