The brand Sikory and the cultural heritage of its owner form a starting point for this project. The idea was to avoid the major clichés of ethnically inspired design and to develop a fresh modern take on it. Traditional Ukrainian embroidery patterns are reinterpreted, deconstructed and put back together to form new patterns, both in two and in three dimensions and in various scales. The brand logo is also used in a similar way - deconstructed, rescaled and shaped into abstract patterns on the custom-made perforated metal elements. Metal, namely brass and brass-coloured anodised steel, is a thread that runs through most of the design ideas in this project, linking it all together while being used in a variety of ways. Brass was chosen because it is very similar to one of the Sikory brand colours, which in turn was inspired by the white wine and the colours found in traditional embroidery and woven and painted artifacts. It also provides a good contrast to the matt raw concrete or the cement-based render that are prominent in most of the spaces. It the resulting scheme, the brass elements form some of the main focal points and defining features of the project.
