The design of the new venue focuses on practicality as the central theme. To maximize the functional needs of users while considering the varying impacts of different uses, we aimed to present functions in a more systematic and flexible ways. “Brightness, warmth, and tolerance” continue to be the key words for the space.
The office is located on the ground floor of the creative park, which means that for the first time we have both indoor and outdoor spaces. We start with the window facade, combining a low bay window with the floor to extend into the outdoor area, creating a green and relaxing outdoor space. This design fosters a comfortable office environment and enhances the permeability between indoor and outdoor.
At the entrance, we use the same cast-in-place concrete to construct both the outdoor floor and the entrance hall, further blurring the boundary between indoor and outdoor and enhancing visual continuity.
In terms of layout, we have placed relative structured blocks of different functional areas in the space, improving the spatial order while maintaining clear independence for each function.
We preserved the raw texture of the original space and kept the new elements functional, ensuring that the original walls, exposed beams, and columns remain visually prominent, establishing a dialogue between past and present.
In the interior design, we try to maximize functionality by dividing the space into systems for top-hung window, display areas, hanging systems, office furniture, and lighting. Modular thinking was employed throughout the project to create a flexible, adaptable space.
Top-hung window: To balance aesthetics and practicality, we redesigned the top-hung windows to connect the indoor and outdoor areas. We designed top-hung window handle for opening and closing the windows, allowing users to control the size of the opening window while enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.
Display: For displaying books and materials, we designed hanging shelves that can be placed in different areas to meet the needs of varying situations.
Hanging system:To accommodate daily tools and allow for future space expansion, we implemented a cable and quick-release buckle system to create an efficient hanging system.
Office furniture:To ensure uniformity and ease of maintenance, we designed a modular series of office furniture for the new office.
Lighting: For the lighting design, we focused on balancing the light throughout the space by maximizing diffuse reflection for primary illumination. We created a series of light fixtures tailored to the needs of design professionals. Additionally, the main office lighting is integrated into a “bridge” design, transforming light fixtures into spatial installations.
We categorized the different functions into different systems and presented them in a systematic, thoughtful way. Our wish is for the new space to be sustainable, capable of evolving and growing alongside its users.
