The sculptural reception desk is more than meets the eye. Strategically placed lighting creates the illusion that it is floating above the floor. - Edward Shi

This project comprises 5 floors. The journey begins in the eclectic winding alleys of Shanghai’s Longtang (L16), moving through to the dynamic Huangpu Promenade (L18), the modernity of Shanghai’s architecture (L25), and finishes with the serenity of the Shanghai Skyline (L28).

Throughout the design process, we have been guided by 3 experience principles that drive the design: A Sense of Place, Intuitive + Empowering, and Diverse + Inclusive + Dynamic. These principles have inspired us to create a workspace that is not only functional and efficient but also inspiring, reflecting the richness of Shanghai's culture and spirit.

Functionality
To adopt the “Future of Work Now” principles, the project achieves space optimization by releasing excess capacity and adapting a hybrid working model in China market.

Following the company’s playbook as a solid design guideline and supplementing local special needs, the new space is planned with a desk layout for task-orientated work and information confidentiality. It is well-balanced with collaboration and social space and brings the community area in SCB L16 with an F&B solution. On top of that, a new guest relation experience is offered on L28 with the new front-of-house reception area.

Innovative
“Diverse + Dynamic” being the experience principle of the task zones, the aim is to provide choice to staff, bringing the organization into an era of a “new way of work”. Aside from traditional workstations, the task zones largely consist of touchdown spaces, open booth seating, ad-hoc collaboration, focus pods and quiet spaces, accommodating a diverse spectrum of modes and styles of work. The use of digital signage and mobile applications is also integrated to provide employees with real-time information on workspace availability and booking, creating a seamless and efficient experience.

Creativity
Drawing inspiration from the textures of Shanghai's eclectic historical neighborhoods, the floor's design features a color palette of grey and orange, drawn from Shikumen brick facades. The feature ceiling conjures images of washing rods protruding from windows, a common sight while wandering through the city's longtangs. The overall effect is a welcoming, vibrant space that embodies the spirit of Shanghai's vibrant culture.

Sustainability
The project aims to achieve both LEED and WELL GOLD certifications. Sustainability is at the forefront of the design, with all materials and finishes specified with green certificates. Eco-friendly acoustic wall and ceiling panels are fully utilized for their acoustic performance, reasonable pricing, durability, enhanced voice absorption, and thermal properties in accordance with WELL Standards. This ensures that the building is designed to be energy-efficient and environmentally responsible, while also providing a comfortable and healthy workspace for employees.
