The project is the intersection of design office and public cafe. Found along a narrow Shanghai lane on the ground floor of a converted stapler factory, the space is a light and airy mix of industrial materials and raw textures. The cafe bay is the face of the project with its 10m long counter bar that acts as the anchor of the experience. Adjoining the cafe is the design office bay, where we work and co-exist with the cafe. The cafe is a mix of seating types, low/medium/high and acts as the breakout space for all design discussions. The fully adjustable back display wall has a mix of our design library and sample materials, cafe guests often select an architecture book for browsing. The cafe bar is designed to be as open an experience as possible. The design office is 3 long work tables that can accommodate flexibility in our seating stations. One private office and conference room anchor the back of the office. Everything was built with a simple material palette of white industrial terrazzo tiles, rough render white concrete, untreated oak panelling, original factory concrete faces.
