Nestled in a small valley and surrounded by sheer cliff faces, Eagles Crag has nine guest chalets and residential scale, open plan public areas.
The interiors of the lodge are dark yet warm, pulling the external landscape into the spaces. Furnishings are modern with strong accents of African themed seating, fabrics and decorative lighting - natural finishes and textures emphasize the bush lodge feel.
A key feature of the lodge are the 5 large scale woven “nests” in the dining room, which provide guests with a more intimate and private dining experience - separating them from other guests. Each nest was specially hand woven for the project and assembled on site - adding a sense of drama and volume to the space.
The colour palette at Eagles Crag is very earthy, in keeping with the surrounding landscape and rock formations. Various African textures were used in the spaces, namely the beaded Elitis wallpaper, woven pendants, hand woven dining pods and large scale wicker styled chairs in the public spaces.
The guest chalets offer a lot of privacy, separated by long timber walkways that meander through the natural bush.
The rooms were designed to be intimate and romantic, with the warm colour palette from the public areas as a continuing theme throughout. Working with existing structure and services created a challenge, areas within the rooms were formed using patterned screens and functional joinery and upgrades made to all services.
The architectural refurb was by others.
