SFER IK is a 50-foot-tall dome that defies the paradigms of exhibiting contemporary art. Where traditional exhibition spaces employ white walls and right angles, our construction mimics the surrounding environment through its curvilinear forms and organic textures. The primary materials are polished concrete and bejuco vines, a local plant species seldom used as a construction material that grows freely in the jungle. On the floors, walls, and ceiling, the subtle changes in color between the tightly-knit vines create dynamic patterns that set our surfaces in motion. The bejuco is not solely a decorative element, but also a structural one; the translucent floral pattern on the ceiling comprises woven vines, which allows natural light into the space. They also form pathways that lead guests along on their visit, lining the spiraling ramp that descends from the entrance, and continuing on through the different coves on the main floor.
